PITTSBURGH (AP) — A teenager who pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of a man at a Pittsburgh busway stop a year ago has been sentenced to 40 years to life.

As part of an agreement with Allegheny County prosecutors, 17-year-old Jordan Bey also pleaded guilty to robbery, conspiracy and a firearms count.

If Bey had been convicted on the charges without a plea agreement, he could have been sentenced to 80 years to life.

He was charged in the October 2013 slaying of 21-year-old Omar Islam of Troy Hill during a robbery at the busway of the Homewood Avenue station.

President Judge Jeffrey Manning called it “another in a series of truly unnecessary deaths and tragedies.”

Two men still await trial on homicide charges in the case.
