NEW CASTLE (AP) – Police in one western Pennsylvania city were increasing patrols after a 15-year-old girl reported being raped as she walked to school.

The New Castle News said the 15-year-old girl reported being assaulted sometime between 6:45 a.m. and 7:07 a.m. Thursday in an alley near New Castle High School. That’s about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

The girl tells police her attacker wore dark clothes with a hooded sweatshirt covering his head and a bandanna over his face.

Schools superintendent John Sarandrea said the district alerted all parents and students of the attack. The girl who reported the attack was taken to a hospital.

Sarandrea said students should try to wait until daylight to walk to school. That will be even easier after Daylight Savings Time ends Nov. 2.
