Veterans Council planning parade

WAYNESBURG – Greene County’s Veterans Day parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at First Baptist Church, Waynesburg, and continue east on High Street to Morgan Street.

As part of the festivities, a ceremony following the parade will take place at the courthouse with Ann K. Drach, a retired U.S. Army colonel, as speaker. Also, a luncheon will be served from noon to 2 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793, Lincoln Street, Waynesburg, for veterans and the public.

The parade is sponsored by the Greene County Veterans Council, and veteran Dick Davis will serve as parade marshal.

Drach of Sycamore was commissioned in 1974 and served worldwide for 28 years as a member of the Army’s Transportation Corps.

Her assignments included leadership positions at Fort Eustis, Va.; Lajes Air Force Base Portugal; the Naval Supply Center, Oakland, Calif.; Fort Richardson, Alaska; the Naval War College in Newport, R.I.; Fort Stewart, Ga.; Saudia Arabia; the Balkans; and Washington, D.C.

Drach is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm where she served with the VIIth U.S. Corps. She commanded troops at every level, culminating in brigade command with the 1st Infantry Division.

Upon her retirement in 2002, Drach became a defense industry business developer and analyst working for both Burdeshaw Associates and Lockheed Martin Corp. in Washington, D.C. She operated her own defense consulting business from 2004 until 2011.

She holds a master’s degree in business management from Central Michigan University a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College and a master’s degree in military arts and science from the School for Advanced Military Studies at Fort Leavenworth.
