WAYNESBURG – As the renovation project in the high school auditorium nears completion, Central Greene School Board approved a change order at its meeting Tuesday from R.E. Yates Electric Inc. for $529.92. The work entails removing old emergency security lighting in the auditorium.

District Superintendent Brian Uplinger told the board the auditorium seats arrived and are being installed. The completion date of the project was delayed when delivery of the seats took longer than anticipated. District architect David McClean addressed the board at its September meeting regarding the progress on the auditorium work. McClean said Oct. 27 would be the new completion date.

McClean said there will be a final test of the new sound and lighting systems once the seats are installed, as the seats will affect the acoustics in the room.

In other matters, the board agreed to adopt two memorandums of understanding between the district and Central Greene Education Association during its monthly meeting Tuesday.

In the first approved memorandum, the district and the education association agreed to an adjusted class schedule for Margaret Bell Miller Middle School during PSSA testing allowing teachers to have prep time, per the collective bargaining agreement.

In the second memorandum, the district and the education association came to an agreement regarding language in the job description for librarian. Uplinger said the memorandum clarifies specific requirements and skills the district deemed appropriate for the position to provide the best educational opportunities for the students.

The requirements of the librarian came into question when the position became available because of retirement.

The librarian position was filled at the August board meeting with a transfer of Andrea Layton who was at the time employed as a high school English teacher at Waynesburg Central.

In other personnel matters, several persons were added to the list of professional substitutes for the 2014-15 school year, including: Monica A. Cheskawich, English/communications; Leann Danley, K-6/special education; and Sarah Miklaik, pre-K to 4th grade. Those added under the Intermediate Unit 1 emergency certification program were, Laura D’Eletto, Lauren Fisher and Brittany Robertson. Christy Newkirk was approved as a noninstructional substitute.

The board accepted the resignations of head varsity boys track coach Scott Litwinovich and varsity head boys basketball coach Drew Schifino. It approved hiring Dave Sarra as Schifino’s replacement.

The board also hired Mike Camilli as National Honor Society co-sponsor at Waynesburg Central High School and Amanda Brown as a lifeguard for the high school pool at $12.32 per hour.

Under personnel, the board approved transfers for Beverly Woods from a midnight shift janitor position to a vacant elementary afternoon shift security position for weekends and holidays and Ann Marie Pratt from an afternoon janitor/security position to a vacant midnight janitor position at the elementary school. It accepted a resignation from Judy Calvert, lunch and bus aide at the elementary school.

The board also accepted a recommendation by the personnel committee and administration to appoint the volunteers/chaperones with appropriate clearances from the following: Amy Ayers, Sarah Maxwell, Lacey Gooden, Lisa Schwarz, Barb Hartlaub and Joyce Winters.

The following Waynesburg University students will have their field experience in the district during the current school year: Carolena Gasbarro, Jason Poland, Serena Wyatt, Brian Jennings, Renee Watts and Christa Ziefel.

Lastly, a request to plan a field trip for Waynesburg Central students to Costa Rica and Nicaragua through Education First Tours from June 14-23, 2016 was approved. Board members Joe Ayersman and Eleanor Chapman voted against the trip, which is open to all Waynesburg Central High School students who meet specific criteria and have parental approval.
