5 jurors picked for doc’s cyanide poisoning trial
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Attorneys have selected five of 16 jurors needed for the trial of a Pittsburgh medical researcher charged with having killed his neurologist wife with cyanide.
Allegheny County prosecutors and defense attorneys for 65-year-old Dr. Robert Ferrante were able to choose five jurors out of the first 18 people questioned Tuesday.
A dozen jurors and four alternates must be selected before attorneys can deliver opening statements in the trial of Ferrante, who is accused of having laced an energy drink with cyanide to kill 41-year-old Dr. Autumn Klein in April 2013.
Ferrante has denied the allegations and said he’s “devastated” by her sudden death. But authorities say he bought the poison with his University of Pittsburgh credit card two days before his wife fell suddenly ill.
