WILKES-BARRE (AP) – A northeastern Pennsylvania high school dean accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student a decade ago says he was at a funeral when the relationship allegedly began.

Stephen Stahl’s lawyer disclosed the alibi Wednesday, ahead of his corruption of minors trial next week.

The 48-year-old Hunlock Creek man is suspended from his dean of students position at Wilkes-Barre’s Coughlin High School.

Police arrested Stahl in February after his accuser said she “got the courage” to speak up.

She said she first performed oral sex on Stahl in a classroom closet on March 19, 2004. Stahl’s lawyer said they’ll prove he was at a funeral and signed a guest book that day.

The woman said they continued to have sex for 18 months at the school, hotels and Stahl’s home.
