A Washington man died early Saturday after being shot behind a Jefferson Avenue bar as Washington police detectives were processing the scene of a shooting that happened about two hours earlier in Lincoln Terrace.

Matthew E. McGlone, 21, of Burton Avenue, was shot multiple times behind the Comfort Lounge, 1187 Jefferson Ave., Washington, about 2:18 a.m. He was taken by private vehicle to Washington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:49 a.m. Washington County Coroner Tim Warco ruled his death a homicide.

Avery Selvey, 39, of Canonsburg, was found outside 245 Lincoln Terrace about 12:10 a.m. Saturday with a gunshot wound to his upper chest. He was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital.

Washington police Chief Chris Luppino said Saturday the two shootings are not related.

McGlone had multiple gunshot wounds, and there may have been more than one person who fired the shots, Luppino said. Numerous shell casings were found in the rear of the bar.

Luppino said detectives were processing the shooting scene at Lincoln Terrace while other officers responded to an alarm at the Elks Lodge on East Maiden Street.

“The officers answering the alarm heard the gunshots all the way down there,” Luppino said. “Then they got the call about the shooting.”

McGlone was inside the bar that morning. Luppino said the Comfort Lounge is not considered a nuisance bar.

“We believe there may be multiple witnesses that the detectives are in the process of locating,” the chief said. “There were just a few people in the bar, mostly employees, and several still outside.”

In August 2012, McGlone pled guilty to charges of simple assault and firearms not be carried with a license in connection for firing shots into a home converted into apartments at 31 North Ave., East Washington, in the early hours of Christmas Eve 2011. He was sentenced to 2 1/2 to five years in jail.

Also in 2011, he pled guilty to carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property and simple assault stemming from two different incidents in Washington.

Selvey was apparently shot while sitting in a silver Chevrolet Impala, Luppino said. Police followed a trail of blood and found the Canonsburg man outside the Lincoln Terrace residence. The chief said Selvey was in serious condition.

Luppino said Selvey, as well as potential witnesses, are not cooperating with the investigation.

Luppino asked that anyone with information on the shootings call 911 and leave a message for a city police detective.
