Carroll Township police are looking for two men who fired shots outside a bar early Sunday, with one of the bullets hitting a Duquesne man in the neck.
Police were called about 1:40 a.m. to Hot House Tap & Grill Room, 807 Dry Ridge Road (Route 136) in the Valley Inn section of the township, for a report of shots fired.
Police Chief Paul Brand said several of the patrons said they were leaving and were outside the main entrance when a black man, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a beard and wearing a white, hooded shirt, pulled out a dark firearm and started shooting in the direction of Devon Brown, 25. Brown was struck in the neck.
A second gunman also opened fire. He was a light-skinned black man, 6 feet to 6 feet, 3 inches, tall with some facial hair. He was wearing a black, hooded shirt with the letters “MOB” on it. He also wore dark pants.
“We don’t know who was protecting who,” Brand said. “There may have been a confrontation earlier in the bar that could have boiled over.”
Brand said Brown was not at the scene when police arrived, but was taken by private vehicle to Monongahela Valley Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Brand said there was no description of the vehicle used by the gunmen. Police interviewed witnesses at the scene. Monongahela and Donora police also assisted.
Brand said he has been in contact with the state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement as well as the Washington County district attorney’s office to determine the appropriate steps to take in dealing with the bar.
“Since June, we have been called for assaults, reported disturbances and shots fired in the area,” Brand said. “There has also been drug activity reported in the parking lot.”
A call to the Hot House Monday afternoon was not answered.
This was the third shooting in the county this weekend, with the first two happening in Washington. Matthew McGlone, 21, of Washington, was shot and killed behind Comfort Lounge on Jefferson Avenue about 2:20 a.m. Saturday. Just two hours earlier, Avery Selvey, 39, of Canonsburg, was shot while sitting in the back seat of a car parked in Lincoln Terrace. He was taken to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh, for treatment of a chest wound.
Washington police are continuing their investigation into both incidents.
Both departments are looking for information in the shootings. Brand said anyone with information on the Carroll shooting can call 724-483-5556. Anyone with information on the Washington shootings is asked to call 911 and leave a message to have a detective call.
