A Carroll Township man was indicted Tuesday on a charge of theft of government property, the U.S. attorney’s office in Pittsburgh announced.

The one-count indictment named Gregory Kavalec, 68, of Country Club Road as the sole defendant in the case.

Kavalec was accused of unlawfully receiving Social Security benefits totalling $17,985 between Oct. 3, 2013, and Sept. 3, according to U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton.

The Social Security Administration’s Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.
