The Michigan trucker accused of sexually assaulting an Ohio woman in the parking lot of the Bentleyville Pilot truck stop last week was ordered to stand trial following his preliminary hearing Wednesday in Central Court.

Kevin James Young, 46, of Montgomery, was ordered held for court by President Judge Debbie O’Dell Seneca. He is in Washington County jail on $250,000 bond since being charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment in connection with the Oct. 20 incident. A charge of statutory sexual assault was withdrawn because it was filed in error.

The 28-year-old woman from Toledo testified Wednesday that Young raped her three times while she accompanied him in his tractor-trailer from Ohio to Michigan, and then to Pennsylvania, where police were notified. She said Young also struck her legs with a metal pipe, burned her right cheek with a cigarette and threatened to kill her if she did not say she was his girlfriend.

The woman said she met Young Oct. 19 outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Toledo, where Young approached her and asked if she wanted to take a ride with him to drop off a load. Young reportedly told her he would drop her off the following day.

The woman said she had issues in her life and wanted to forget about them, so she agreed to go with Young. They drove to her residence so she could pack an overnight bag. She did not bring her cellphone, which was loaned to a friend.

They then drove to Michigan, where Young picked up his tractor-trailer at a trucking company. At that point, Young allegedly pushed her into the bed of the truck and raped her. The woman said she tried to stop Young but was unable.

She said the next thing she remembered was waking up in the bed of the truck at a Pilot truck stop, but she was unsure of the location. She said she was again raped and assaulted inside the truck. According to the affidavit filed in District Judge James Ellis’ office, the second alleged assault occurred in Erie along Interstate 90.

The woman said Young asked her what her favorite color was because he “wanted to put (her) in a vase.”

When asked if she had been given anything to eat or drink during the trip, she said Young gave her soda that was already opened.

She said the entire day was “a blur” and struggled to remember what happened next, but said she remembers waking up at a different Pilot truck stop in Bentleyville, where she said she was again raped. She went into the truck stop with Young so he could shower, but said she was too afraid to notify anyone there.

She asked to borrow Young’s cellphone to go on Facebook, and he agreed. She messaged the father of her children and then called him and asked for help. The woman messaged him again while Young was sleeping inside his truck at the Bentleyville Pilot, and he determined her location through GPS and contacted state police.

She said she was locked inside the truck and could not get out until police arrived.

State police Trooper Craig Spisak testified the passenger door was locked when he arrived at the scene. He said the doors were functioning, but they were difficult to unlock.

He said he saw bruises on the woman’s shins and a burn mark on her face. She was taken to a local hospital to be treated.

Young will be formally arraigned at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 30.
