Avella Area School District approved a three-year teachers contract recently that includes a pay increase.

Superintendent Janell Logue-Belden said the contract, which covers 55 employees, includes an average increase to base salary of 2.19 percent over the course of three years.

Logue-Belden said teachers accepted an increase in premium shares to the current health-care plan, with the exception of individual plans.

“Both sides agree that it is a fair and equitable settlement – one which allows them to continue to serve the education of the Avella Area students and community effectively,” said a statement issued by the administration and teachers union.
