A Canton Township man accused of robbing a gas station and a fast-food restaurant along with several co-defendants was sentenced to a minimum of 11 1/2 months to 2 years in jail Friday in Washington County Court.
David A. Piatt, 23, of 1283 Weirich Ave., pleaded guilty to robbery before Washington County Judge John F. DiSalle prior to his sentencing. Piatt had been in jail since he was arrested for the robberies in November 2012. As a result, Piatt was released from jail Friday.
Piatt was accused of participating in two robberies, both on Nov. 13, 2012, at the Kwik Fill on West Pike Street in Chartiers Township and at a Subway restaurant on Route 519 in Somerset Township.
Piatt’s co-defendants, Charles E. Clark, 23, of 770 Ridge Road, Taylorstown; Travis J. Hallam, 20, of 1209 Sycamore Ave., Washington; and Matthew C. McDonald, 21, of 498 Park Ave., North Franklin Township, previously pleaded guilty to robbery. McDonald, who committed the robbery at the Kwik Fill and stole cash, drinks and potato chips, also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery. Clark, who drove the getaway car in the Kwik Fill robbery, and Hallam were sentenced to a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 2 years. Hallam and Piatt remained in the getaway vehicle while McDonald was inside.
McDonald was sentenced to 3 1/2 years to 7 years in prison. He was not involved in the Subway restaurant robbery. Piatt’s, Clark’s and Hallam’s roles in the Subway robbery were not detailed.
Piatt also was ordered to 5 years of probation, pay restitution and not to contact his co-defendants. He also is banned from Subway restaurants and is not to have contact with the Chartiers Township Kwik Fill.
