University to remove bell tower

PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) — Alderson Broaddus University is removing the Wilcox Chapel Bell Tower.

School officials say the tower will be removed because it is structurally unstable. The tower has been at the college for nearly 40 years.

The university says a previously undiscovered design flaw was found recently.

Once the tower is removed, anything that can be salvaged will be repurposed.

Work will begin on the bell tower on Monday.
