• Action: At the request of Washington County Court, the county entered into a contract with James Weaver as a conflict attorney at a rate not to exceed $25,000 a year. The conflict attorney represents clients who have co-defendants using the services of the public defender’s office.
The board approved both temporary and permanent deeds of easements with property owners John R. Nakutis, $5,500, and Joseph D. and Dara D. Glagola, $500, in exchange for access to Pike Run No. 11 Bridge, Daisytown. State taxpayers will bear 80 percent of the cost, and the remainder will be borne by Washington County’s liquid fuels allocation. Construction of a new bridge is expected to take place next year.
At the request of the county health center, Audiology Doctors of Pennsylvania will provide consulting services to facility residents. Residents’ insurance companies will be billed for services.
Votes were 3-0.
Commission Vice Chairman Diana Irey Vaughan abstained from voting on a request from Sheriff Samuel Romano to purchase a cellphone for the use of her husband, Robert Vaughan, a deputy sheriff, at a monthly cost of $26. Commission Chairman Larry Maggi and Commissioner Harlan Shober voted in favor of Romano’s request.
• Next meeting: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the public meeting room of the Courthouse Square office building. The change was made because the regular Thursday morning meeting time conflicts with the Senior Expo.
