Cornerstone Care will host its third annual “Dancing with a Pink Ribbon Masquerade Ball” from 5 to 11 p.m. Sept. 27 at the historic Summit Inn Resort on Route 40 East of Uniontown.
Tickets are $45 per person and available online at www.dancingwithapinkribbon.com or by calling the ticket line 724-852-1001ext. 305. Ticket price includes admission, dinner and dancing.
The fundraising event designed to prevent breast cancer by helping women receive mammograms will feature musical entertainment, dinner, dancing, cash bar and a silent auction.
Scheduled to appear is the band, N202R (Not Too Old To Rock). It performs everything from the great songs of the ’60s and ’70s through today’s top 40 and country. It features a wide array of classic and modern rock, dance, R&B, pop, country, oldies, and blues.
The band members include lead singer Ed Cassidy of Coraopolis; bassist Dan D’Alessandro of Eighty Four; guitarist Mark Rehak of Imperial; Uniontown’s Jim Black on keyboards; and drummer Mark Pollera from McDonald.
“The String of Pearls Dance Troupe” from Morgantown also will perform during the evening. The Pink Masquerade Ball will include a mask contest for the prettiest, most creative and most elaborate masks and also feature the random selection and crowing of the “Belle of the Ball.”
“We always have a nice crowd and everyone has a very good time,” said Donna Simpson, manager of Outreach and Mobile Services for Cornerstone Care. “Funds raised from the event are used to support the Dancing with a Pink Ribbon Breast Health project and other Cornerstone Care outreach projects.”
The Dancing with a Pink Ribbon Breast Health Project offers free clinical breast exams and mammogram referrals. “The program provides education to men and women on the importance of early detection and screenings,” said Sheila Shea, outreach specialist.
The project recently was granted additional funding from Susan G. Komen Pittsburgh to further expand the program into Washington and Somerset counties. “The importance of this program should not be understated because approximately 12.3 percent of women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their lifetime, and we travel to communities in our mobile medical unit and reach out to the underserved and uninsured women who may not otherwise receive a clinical breast exam or mammogram,” added Christina Livingston, another outreach specialist.
