State police located a tractor-trailer whose two rear wheels and tires fell off in a hit-and-run crash Monday that killed a motorist on Interstate 79 in Allegheny County .

Information from the public led police to the truck’s trailer, which was seized and searched Tuesday, police said.

No additional information was released Thursday by police because the investigation was ongoing.

The victim was identified by the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office as Scott Rice, 53, of Gibsonia.

The wheels dislodged from the vehicle about 6 a.m. Monday on I-79 south near the Mt. Nebo exit and also struck a second vehicle, injuring two people.
