SOMERSET (AP) – An 80-year-old Western Pennsylvania man has pleaded guilty to stalking a woman who testified against him in the killing of his second wife after just three weeks of marriage.
State police charged William McTonic, of Jerome, with driving past the woman’s home several times in April and May. He was jailed until Thursday’s plea, but was released pending sentencing Dec. 2.
The victim dated McTonic before he married 73-year-old Ruth Anne Henderson in March 2009. Henderson was shot on her back porch in April 2009, shortly after threatening to divorce McTonic.
Bailey testified McTonic called to say Henderson had been killed – though he didn’t say by whom – two hours before the body was found.
Then-Somerset County District Attorney Jerry Spangler dropped the charges after a judge barred a statement McTonic made about the suspected murder weapon.
