Walk raises Alzheimer’s awareness
More than 350 people convened at Washington Park on Saturday morning for the 14th annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s event that raised about $35,000, committee organizers said.
The walk was preceded with several emotional speeches by some whose loved ones are suffering from or have died from Alzheimer’s, including Christine Beros, who talked about loss and encouraged the crowd huddled in one of the park pavilions to donate in support of the cause.
Tracy Sushel of Claysville, who works at Thomas Campbell, was one of many walkers who placed flower pinwheels into the ground before the walk to honor of relatives, caregivers and friends who are fighting the disease or helping someone they know.
In addition to the walk, a Chinese auction was held to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.
