Waynesburg police bring in rooster
WAYNESBURG – A rooster that reportedly kept neighbors awake in the area of the Waynesburg Moose Lodge Sunday evening was apprehended shortly after 11 a.m. Monday.
Waynesburg Borough Manager Mike Simms said he received a call Monday morning asking if there was an ordinance that prevented ownership of chickens in the borough.
The caller said he and his wife were kept awake by a rooster crowing outside their window.
Simms said there is a law that prohibits ownership of domestic fowl in Waynesburg Borough.
The rogue rooster was captured by two women outside the Specialty Herbal store on East High Street.
Police Chief Rob Toth said he took the call from its captors, Crystal Bardon and Amanda Jones, who said they found a rooster outside the store. Toth and Officer Shawn Wood retrieved the bird and brought it to the station where it was secured.
“It has just been sitting there quietly. It seems like it was maybe someone’s pet,” Toth said, and then joking he had considered keeping it around to keep officers awake on the late shift.
Monday afternoon, Toth said he was placing a call to the Greene County Humane Society to see if it would take the rooster.
