The former general manager for Consol’s land records department is accused of swindling more than $440,000 in gas royalties from the company in a lease fraud scheme, according to a court document filed Monday by federal prosecutors.

Scott D. Hamilton, 37, of Marshall Township, Allegheny County, has been charged with 60 counts of mail fraud. Authorities allege that Hamilton set up a fictitious company, PRH LLC, in August 2009 and assigned it Consol’s interest in two parcels, one in Christian County, Ill., and one in Fayette County, W.Va.

The companies handling the royalties for the two parcels mailed the checks to Hamilton’s fake company instead of Consol from 2009 through 2012, the court document said.

At the time, Hamilton was believed to have been living in Houston and Washington,

Hamilton faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for each count and fines.

His attorney, Steven Townsend, could not immediately be reached for comment.
