ERIE (AP) – A northwestern Pennsylvania constable who acknowledged having consensual sex with a prostitute three times late last year has been sentenced to 90 days to a year in jail.

Thirty-seven-year-old Stephen Chamberlain of Centerville had originally been charged in Erie County with having forced the woman to have sex at a price he set under the threat of arrest.

His attorney argued Monday that his client should only be sentenced on the misdemeanor prostitution charges to which he pleaded guilty in July, not on the initial allegations against him.

But Judge John Garhart sentenced Chamberlain in the aggravated range, citing his position of authority as an elected law enforcement official at the time.

Defense attorney Chad Vilushis said his client had essentially lost his job and was receiving counseling.
