Waynesburg man sentenced for DUI

WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man who pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol, his second offense in 10 years, was sentenced Thursday by Greene County Judge Farley Toothman to five years in the county intermediate punishment program.

Lewis Jack Orum, 42, of 274 Sugar Run Road, was arrested in Waynesburg Feb. 2, after a driver alerted police a vehicle in front of him appeared to be driving erraticly.

Police followed Orum’s vehicle and pulled him over after he failed to stop for a stop sign.

Orum had a blood-alcohol content of 0.312 percent. He pleaded guilty to DUI and a summary traffic violation July 15.

As part of his sentence, Orum must spend 30 days in jail and five months under house arrest.

The remaining time will be spent on regular probation. Orum was granted work release privileges.

He also was fined $1,525 and ordered to perform 225 hours of community service.

In another case, Nathan Wayne Bush, 25, of 3933 Parkersburg Road, Reedy, W.Va., pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to a term of incarceration from Sept. 11 until he is deemed eligible for parole in six months. Parole eligibility is subject to completion of a drug and alcohol assessment.

Bush was arrested for DUI, his first DUI offense, June 19, 2011.

He was initially entered into the accelerated rehabilitative disposition program, but was removed after violating program conditions.

A bench warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear for an ARD revocation hearing in March 2013 and for plea court in April 2013. Bush was arrested Sept. 11 in West Virginia and returned to Greene County.

In addition to the jail sentence, Bush was ordered to pay a $500 fine and perform 90 hours of community service.

In a jury trial Monday, Cory Curtis Kiger, 27, of 164 Quiet Valley Road, Waynesburg, was found not guilty of a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they were investigating another incident at a house on Pitcock Road in Whiteley Township Aug. 28, 2013, when Kiger drove up. He allegedly told police he didn’t have a license and consented to a request to search his vehicle.

He also allegedly told police he had a few needles in the vehicle, which were found wrapped in a glove, police said.
