PITTSBURGH – The Pennsylvania attorney general’s office says in legal papers that a state prison clerk suing over her rape by an inmate may have “contributed” to the attack.

The claim is contained in the AG’s response to a lawsuit filed by the clerk who was raped by Omar Best, of Philadelphia.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane says that she was saddened to learn the filing implied that the victim somehow contributed to the crime.

Best has since been sentenced to life in prison for the July 2013 rape at SCI-Rockview.

The victim’s lawsuit contends corrections officials let Best work near her despite his history of violent sex offenses and that they didn’t have enough guards on duty.

The AG filing was first reported by the Centre Daily Times.
