A Masontown man was sentenced to jail after he pleaded guilty to stealing prescription medication from a Carmichaels residence where he worked as a caregiver.

Denzil Edward Coger, 20, of 10 W. Harvey Ave., was sentenced Tuesday to 3 to 23 ½ months to be followed by a concurrent sentence of 23 ½ months of probation for criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking or disposition and criminal mischief.

Coger stole 12 Xanax and eight Hydrocodone pills from the residence of John and Denise Lorence while the Lorences were out of their home for a short time.

Police said Coger damaged the door and lock of the home when he forcibly entered it on Nov. 16 to take the medication and $20 cash. Coger was ordered to pay a fine of $500 and restitution of $237.48 for the damages.
