DONORA – Social workers removed three children from a Donora house they claimed was in deplorable condition last month, leading borough police to arrest the couple caring for them on child endangerment charges Wednesday.

Kristy N. Thompson, 37, the mother of the children, and Christopher David, 36, the father of one of the children, were arrested on warrants accusing them of allowing their residence to become littered with dog feces and heroin paraphernalia, some of which was found within reach of a child, court records indicate.

The children, ages 2, 8 and 10, were placed in the custody of Washington County Children and Youth Services March 26 after investigators concluded they were neglected and living in unsanitary conditions, Donora police stated in court records.

Police were summoned that day to the house at 230 McKean Ave., where they also found a malnourished dog chained to a kitchen chair without adequate food or water, the record states.

Dog feces was discovered throughout the first floor of the home, especially in the kitchen and dining areas. Police also found used stamp bags of heroin and syringes in the house, and bags of garbage were found strewn across the second floor. The stench inside the home was overwhelming, police stated.

Escape routes from the home also were blocked with furniture and other objects, putting the children are risk of fleeing in the event of a fire, police said.

Thompson also faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson and placed Wednesday in Washington County jail on $5,000 bond. David, who also has an address of 22 Stout Road, Elrama, but was living with Thompson, was released after posting bond.
