NEW CASTLE (AP) – Two children have been killed in a Western Pennsylvania house fire.

Authorities say the 2-month-old boy and 5-year-old boy were pronounced dead at a hospital Tuesday morning after they were pulled from the burning home in New Castle, Lawrence County.

New Castle fire chief Mark Panella tells KDKA-TV an officer attempting to rescue residents was found inside the home after passing out from smoke inhalation.

Authorities say the fire started around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday. The boys’ parents, grandmother and two other children were also in the home.

A state police fire marshal is investigating.

New Castle is about 50 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
