State Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-North Strabane Township, and Canonsburg Mayor David H. Rhome are teaming up to sponsor a free community shredding event May 2 for the safe disposal of unwanted confidential documents.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Neuman’s constituent service office at 1825 Washington Road.

“It’s a convenient way to safely dispose of confidential documents and prevent fraud and identity theft,” Neuman said.

“The event is free for local residents, and documents will be shredded on-site and recycled by bonded and uniformed personnel,” Rhome said.

Common types of unwanted items that should be shredded include credit card statements, credit card applications, bank statements, canceled checks, income tax information, insurance records and retirement or pension fund information.

A limit of four boxes or bags per person is requested, and businesses are not permitted to participate.

More information is available by calling Neuman’s office at 724-743-7602.
