The Washington man wanted on a warrant stemming from his alleged involvement in a home invasion in Canton Township last year was found Wednesday morning by state police hiding in a closet of a home in Washington’s West End.

James Glenn Megyesy, 19, whose last known address was Governor Circle, was found hiding in a bedroom closet at 746 Broad St., about 7:40 a.m. after state police received a tip he was at the residence. Katelynn Marie Scherer, 26, who lives at the residence, was also arrested by state police after she allegedly lied to troopers, telling them he was not at the house.

Megyesy and Brad Herchenroder are accused of forcing their way into the Brook Avenue home of Harold Sibert on March 24, 2014, spraying him in the face with pepper spray, knocking him to the floor and beating him. The alleged victim, who was 69 at the time, was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.

The two allegedly stole Sibert’s wallet and pickup truck. Herchenroder was arrested the day of the home invasion after turning himself in to police. He initially indicated he was the only one involved, but in September he told Trooper Thomas Schuster and Assistant District Attorney Jerry Moschetta that Megyesy also was involved.

State police went to the home on Broad after getting the tip. Scherer’s stepfather answered the door and told troopers that Megyesy was upstairs. Police found Scherer lying on her bedroom floor with her child in a bed next to her.

When troopers asked if Megyesy was there, she reportedly told them he had left the previous night. When police cleared the house, they found Megyesy in a closet in the bedroom.

Scherer was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger on a charge of hindering apprehension. She was placed in Washington County jail on a $5,000 percentage bond.

Megyesy, who is also wanted in Texas on a charge of theft of a firearm, was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of simple and aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property and harassment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for April 29 before Mark.

Herchenroder, who has been in jail since his arrest on $20,000 bond, is scheduled to enter a plea on the charges next month.
