Washington School District officials debunked claims that a student had posted violent threats on social media Friday.

Paul Kostelnik, assistant high school principal, said the alleged threats were taken seriously, but school personnel and law enforcement determined they were “unfounded.” He said the school responded to rumors that threats had been posted on social media, but no threats had been made.

“The threats were unfounded, and it appears that Facebook and social media have led to many unfounded rumors,” he said in an email. “Washington Junior and Senior High School will continue to monitor the situation for the safety of our students. Any parent can contact their child’s principal with questions or concerns.”
