PITTSBURGH (AP) – The former boyfriend of a woman found slain along with her grandmother in western Pennsylvania has been returned to a Pittsburgh jail after he was first taken into custody in New Jersey.

Twenty-five-year-old Cesar Mazza is being held on unrelated assault charges involving one of the slaying victims, 19-year-old Tionna Banks.

Mazza was returned to Allegheny County jail over the weekend. He has been questioned but not charged in the killings of Banks and her 72-year-old grandmother, Valorie Crumpton, who were found May 7.

Mazza was arrested in Newark in May on bench warrants, including two charging him with failing to appear in court on charges he assaulted Banks last fall.

Banks had obtained protection-from-abuse orders against Mazza, saying he threatened to kill her.
