ALTOONA (AP) – Authorities identified a 69-year-old man and his 15-year-old grandson as victims of a Central Pennsylvania apartment fire caused by a carelessly used marijuana pipe.

Sheldon Bare, who lived in the Green Avenue Tower unit in Altoona, and his visiting grandson, Ryan Bare, were rushed to a hospital but died after automatic alarms summoned fire crews about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Altoona police Lt. Jeffrey Pratt said the boy was found in the bedroom while the suspected marijuana pipe was found on a couch, where other evidence suggests Sheldon Bare was smoking from it.

The deaths were ruled accidental, but autopsy results on the victims were not immediately available.
