Who are these young re-enactors?

It’s obvious these boys are re-enacting some event from the Civil War, but who they are, and when and where the photo was taken are unknown.

We’re hoping our readers can help us solve this week’s Mystery Photo and explain exactly what was going on here.

We do know that the picture dates to 1966 or 1967, not long after the centennial celebration of the War Between the States. And we do know that the photo was taken by a member of the staff of the newspaper’s Chartiers Valley office in Canonsburg. So it’s likely these boys, now in their early 60s, would have been students of Peters Township, Canon-McMillan or Chartiers-Houston school district, but not necessarily.

If you think you know who they are or what they were doing, email Park Burroughs, retired executive editor, at pburroughs@observer-reporter.com, or call and leave a message for him along with your telephone number at 724-222-2200, extension 2400.

With a little assistance from the public, we may be able to attach some identifying information to this moment in history and publish our findings next Monday.
