The Greene County man awaiting trial for allegedly robbing a Rogersville grocery store last month faces more charges stemming from the traffic stop when state police took him into custody.

Curtis Matthew Vanbuskirk, 26, of 2114 Bristoria Road, Holbrook, is now facing a charge of driving under the influence of drugs after state police learned he had codeine, morphine, hydrocodone and hydromorphone in his system when he was stopped Aug. 7 in the area of Johnson Lane, Franklin Township.

Police had been given an alert to be on the lookout for a newer white Ford F-150 pickup truck with West Virginia registration wanted in connection with the July 27 robbery of Rush Grocery Store in Rogersville.

Vanbuskirk reportedly entered the store and handed the store owner a note demanding money and threatened to shoot her if she did not comply. After a struggle with the owner, he grabbed money from the register and left. His girlfriend, Michelle L. Cain, 26, of Cameron, W.Va., was reportedly in the truck parked outside the store.

Police spotted the truck, conducted a felony traffic stop and took Vanbuskirk into custody for the robbery. Cain, who was in the truck with him at the time of the stop, also was taken into custody. Police had indicated at the time of the arrest that her parents reportedly owned the truck.

After he was taken into custody, Vanbuskirk told troopers that he had used heroin about 30 minutes before he was pulled over. He was taken to Washington Health Systems where blood was drawn to determine if he was under the influence of drugs.

Vanbuskirk was ordered held for court Aug. 19 by District Judge Louis Dayich on charges of robbery, terroristic threats and theft. Cain was ordered held for court on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and theft, while a terroristic threats charge was dismissed. Her bond was reduced to $10,000 unsecured.

Vanbuskirk remains in the Greene County jail on $30,000 bond. The charges will be filed at the office of District Judge Glenn Bates.
