Renovations under way at Post Office
Renovations and environmental testing are underway inside the Nemacolin Post Office as the U.S. Postal Service still hopes to reopen the building.
As of Monday, the postal service was working to replace some of the building’s plumbing and clean up the interior of the facility, spokesman Tad Kelley said.
The post office was temporarily closed Aug. 15 so the postal service could conduct air quality tests inside the building. Kelley said they have not yet received the results of those tests.
“Much work has been done at the Nemacolin Post Office,” Kelley said.
They are currently waiting for another air quality test to be scheduled, Kelley said. Performing multiple tests is part of the process the postal service follows in similar situations, Kelley said.
The exact reason behind the closure has not been made public. No date has been given as to when the post office might reopen.
Since the closure, members of the community have been forced to travel to the Carmichaels Post Office to receive their mail.
