A Cokeburg man wanted on a warrant by state police for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend three times on Thanksgiving faces an additional charge of resisting arrest after he allegedly ran from troopers Tuesday as they tried to take him into custody at his place of work.

Curtis Gardner, 47, of 121 Lincoln St., was wanted by state police on charges of simple assault and harassment after they obtained an arrest warrant for him Friday from District Judge Jay Weller. Troopers went to a restaurant at the Old Mill in South Strabane Township and tried to take him into custody but he ran from the restaurant, ignoring orders to stop. Gardner ran through a field before he stopped in the parking lot of another part of the shopping complex and was taken into custody.

Gardner is accused of assaulting 32-year-old Kari Lynn Watson inside their home Thanksgiving afternoon, police said. Watson had gone to the state police barracks to speak with a Washington County Children and Youth Services caseworker to discuss custody issues concerning her boyfriend when police learned she had been injured in a domestic earlier in the day.

Watson told state police that she and Gardner had an argument that reportedly turned physical. He allegedly grabbed her hair and pushed her into a wall. He also allegedly threw a glass at her and knocked her over a chair. He then allegedly assaulted her again about 30 minutes later, hitting her in the face. About 6 p.m., Gardner allegedly assaulted her a third time as she attempted to gather some items and leave the house. She reportedly told police that he grabbed and dragged her on the rear deck of their home.

Gardner was arraigned Tuesday night on all of the charges before Weller and placed in Washington County jail on $35,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 14 before District Judge Curtis Thompson on the assault charges. He will have a hearing on the resisting charge on Dec. 16 before Weller.
