Miss Rain Day aids Toys for Tots drive
Claire Kreider, Miss Rain Day 2015, is working with the Tri-County Leathernecks, Eva K. Bowlby Public Library and other local businesses to collect new, unwrapped toys to give to children in Greene County this Christmas as part of an annual Toys for Tots drive.
The Tri-County Leathernecks have been providing the Toys for Tots service to children in Greene County for more than 30 years. The work is one of Kreider’s service projects this year as Miss Rain Day.
“I have always enjoyed the giving of the holiday seasons,” Krieder said. “Christmas is such a magical time of year that should be spent with friends and family, and although the holiday season isn’t about gifts, it is about giving. That’s why I think that each child should have a gift under the tree for Christmas.”
New and unwrapped toys will be collected through Dec. 18 at locations across the county, including Eva K. Bowlby Public Library at 311 N. West St. in Waynesburg. Kreider helped to set up the boxes at Bowlby and several other locations.
“Bowlby Library is pleased to support Miss Rain Day’s efforts to collect gifts for Toys for Tots so that every child will have a memorable Christmas,” family literacy coordinator Diana Moninger said. “We have been blessed to have Claire serve as a tutor in Bowlby’s afterschool program and truly appreciate the efforts to help our community.”
Other drop-off locations include In Motion Dance + Fitness in Waynesburg, A.N.other Beauty Shoppe in Mt. Morris, Community Bank branches in Waynesburg, Walmart, Giant Eagle, Dollar General and Big Lots.
Toys will be distributed Dec. 19 at four locations – American Legion in Carmichaels, Bobtown fire hall, St. Thomas Catholic Church in Clarksville and Greene County Fairgrounds.
Claire will help organize toys at the fairgrounds and work with the Leathernecks to distribute them.
“We are pleased Claire has decided to assist the program as one of her many service projects,” Rain Day scholarship president Emilia Bertugli said.
