Waynesburg University hosts Christmas concert
The Waynesburg University Department of Fine Arts and Music will present the annual “A Concert of Carols” Christmas show at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in Roberts Chapel.
The university’s Lamplighters Concert Choir and Symphonic Band, as well as several Greene County high school instrumentalists, will perform arrangements of works such as “Amen, Go Tell It,” “O Holy Night” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
Edward Powers, professor of theater at Waynesburg University, will present a poetry reading.
“Most of the pieces chosen for this concert use Christmas carols from all types of musical traditions,” said Ronda DePriest, associate professor of instrumental music and director of the music program. “A knowledge of the history of carols is needed to develop a sense of the breadth of humanity’s response to the Christmas season throughout the ages and around the world.”
Doors open at 7 p.m., and the public is invited to attend the free concert, although there is no reserved seating.
Following the concert, the public is invited to visit students and faculty at a reception in the Marsh Center.
