Lions Club names students of month
WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg Central High School seniors Braxton McCollum and Desiree Paige Rose were selected by the high school faculty as Waynesburg Lions Club’s students of the month for November.
Braxton, the son of Sam and Lauren McCollum of Waynesburg, is president of Youth Alive and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, jazz choir, concert choir, chamber choir, French Club, stage crew, drama and technical theater.
He participates in the The Tribe pep band and is a two-year letterman in golf.
McCollum was named sophomore homecoming attendant and Cinderella Ball Prince Charming. He participated in the district choir and the regional choir and was twice a national champion in fine arts and seven times a top 10 finisher in national fire arts.
Braxton performs at local churches, festivals and for the elderly. He is a member of the worship team and youth group at the First Assembly of God Church. He enjoys acting, juggling, singing, playing the bass guitar, hunting and gun collecting.
He plans to pursue an acting career and will either move to Los Angeles or attend a four-year college.
Rose, the daughter of Crystal and Joshua Rose of Waynesburg, has a 4.0 grade point average.
She is president of both National Honor Society and Leo Club and a member of the Alpha Club, Spanish Club, student council and young voters. She participates in Te-Geri at the American Judo-Hapkido Institute.
Rose received the STEM Award, Anna G. Meighen World History Award and Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award.
She volunteers at nursing homes and at WHS-Greene hospital and works at the aquatic center and The Fashion Shoppe.
She plans to attend college and major in nutrition and then attend dental school.
