Foundation raises $1M in four hours to fight homelessness
PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Pittsburgh Foundation has raised more than $1 million in a matter of hours to fight homelessness.
The foundation sponsored the online fundraising effort beginning Monday morning.
Officials say more than $500,000 was raised by noon and those donations were matched by a $500,000 pool that included money from the foundation and private entities.
Foundation President and CEO Max King says the success of the fund drive is “truly inspiring” and demonstrates neighbor-to-neighbor philanthropy.
The total raised this year will go to 40 nonprofits that provide emergency shelter, temporary housing and workforce preparation.
