Canton man accused of holding machete to his girlfriend’s throat
A Canton Township man was arrested Wednesday by state police after he allegedly held a machete to his girlfriend’s throat the previous night and threatened to kill her.
Casey James Sherman, 25, of 55 Griffith Ave., reportedly put the blade of a machete to the throat of 25-year-old Samantha Chloe Zelenka and threatened to kill her about 10 p.m. Tuesday.
He also allegedly choked her and hit her in the right side of her head.
Police said Sherman also allegedly took her car keys and cellphone when she tried to leave the house that night, preventing her from leaving the residence until Wednesday morning.
The Canton man was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, false imprisonment and harassment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond.
As a condition of his bond, Sherman is not allowed to have contact with Zelenka. He is scheduled for a Dec. 30 preliminary hearing on the charges before Mark.
Sherman also was charged this week by Canonsburg police with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia after police said they found him smoking marijuana behind a Dumpster off Cavasina Drive in May.
He was living in Canonsburg at the time of that incident. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on those charges in January before Mark.
