Church of the Covenant in Washington is teaming up with local businesses to help feed the hungry of Washington County.

The fourth annual “Pack the Truck” food drive event will take place today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at three locations in order to collect food for the Greater Washington County Food Bank. Last year, two and half tons of food were donated, and the church hopes to surpass that number this year.

At the Shop ‘n Save stores in Washington and Canonsburg, along with the Giant Eagle in McMurray, trucks will be packed with donations. Members of the church’s youth group will pass out fliers to shoppers while the food drive is ongoing, according to Johanna Hoyt, general manager of All Ways Moving & Storage, which is helping with the event.

“We’re going to be sending a truck to each location,” Hoyt said.

All Ways is being joined by Washington Auto Mall in partnering with Church of the Covenant for the food drive. Hoyt said there are several connections between the moving company and the church that led to them getting involved.

“My daughter attends preschool at Church of the Covenant, and another staff member is a longtime member there.”

After the event concludes at 1 p.m., the All Ways trucks will head straight to the food bank to drop off the donations.
