Plane crashes near Nemacolin resort; 2 reported dead

FARMINGTON – A small plane crashed shortly after takeoff Friday from an airstrip at the posh Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in southwestern Pennsylvania, killing two people and injuring a third, authorities said.
The Beechcraft BE36, with three people on board, crashed about a half mile from the airfield, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters said.
It came down in a private residential area bordering the resort, according to a statement from Nemacolin.
Fayette County dispatch supervisor Jodie Victor said a report of the crash came in about 2:20 p.m. from the resort, about 55 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. He said emergency personnel at the scene reported two people had died and one was being flown to a hospital for treatment.
The resort was built by 84 Lumber founder Joe Hardy, and includes a golf course, luxury hotel, casino and an airfield. It has a 3,800-foot runway, suitable for smaller planes, according to the resort’s website.
The identities of those on board were not immediately released.
Every aircraft has a tail number, akin to a license plate number, that identifies the owner of the plane.
