FARMINGTON – Federal authorities said two witnesses came forward about the crash of a small plane shortly after takeoff at a posh resort in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

The pilot, Terry Carlson of Kennington, Md., and Jason Williams, 26, of Silver Spring, Md., died in the crash.

The pilot’s son, Erik Carlson, 27, of Rockville, Md., survived the crash and was flown to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh with severe burns.

Terry Williams of the National Transportation Safety Board said Saturday a safety board investigator is at the scene.

The plane crashed Friday afternoon in a residential area about a half-mile from the airfield at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.

The resort was built by 84 Lumber founder Joe Hardy.

, and includes a golf course, luxury hotel, casino and an airfield. It has a 3,800-foot runway, suitable for smaller planes, according to the resort’s website.

Williams said the investigator will be looking at weather, maintenance records and the pilot’s records.
