Former Hanover man accused of raping young girl
A former Hanover Township man who was the subject of a manhunt more than a year ago is now facing charges filed by state police for allegedly raping a young girl in Jefferson and Hanover townships.
David Darnell David, 66, is now incarcerated in the West Virginia’s Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville, serving time for similar charges. He is charged with two counts each of rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and three counts each of indecent assault, indecent exposure and corruption of minors for three alleged incidents that occurred between September 2009 and October 2010.
State police were notified of the alleged assaults in June after receiving a report through Washington County Children and Youth Services.
David is accused of sexually assaulting a girl, who was 6 years old at the time, by touching her inappropriately and forcing her to perform sex acts.
David, who is sexual offender on the Megan’s Law list, was wanted on a warrant on a charge of first-degree assault for allegedly assaulting a 3-year-old girl in Brooke County, W.Va., when a task force from that state along with state police, Hanover and Smith township police and Washington County sheriff’s deputies searched a wooded area in the Paris section of Hanover. He was taken into custody after he was found hiding in a camouflage wooded box that he made into a bunker.
Rush said that David was convicted of the charges in West Virginia and will be transferred to a state facility. He will be asked to waive extradition and be returned to Pennsylvania to face the latest charges. If that happens, Rush said he could be returned for arraignment in about six weeks.
