Fire damages break room at ATI plant
A fire early Thursday at ATI’s Allegheny Ludlum plate mill on Green Street in Canton Township damaged an employees’ break room. Washington Fire Chief Linn Brookman said firefighters were called to the plant at 1 a.m. and were on the scene for about two hours. The fire was contained to the room and workers inside the plant were able to get out safely. There were no injuries.
The Washington Fire Department has a contract with ATI for fire protection, and Canton firefighters also assisted. Brookman said the fire caused moderate damage to the break room. The fire is under investigaton by the state police fire marshal, but Brookman said it is believed that a malfunction in a small gas heater ignited the blaze.
