DA: Home robbery victims, perpetrator shot in self-defense
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A prosecutor says two robbery victims and a perpetrator all fatally shot at a Pittsburgh apartment were killed by a third victim who apparently shot at the robber in self-defense.
For now, the alleged shooter, 22-year-old Meiko Devaughn Jr., is charged only with illegally possessing a firearm, drug and receiving stolen property.
Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. says investigators believe Devaughn was being robbed by 25-year-old Kadeem Williams, of Homestead, who climbed through a bathroom window into the apartment about 3:20 a.m. Monday.
Zappala says Devaughn shot Williams, who fled and died outside. But shots Devaughn fired also killed his 16-year-old brother, Jaimill Kenney, and 20-year-old Akeilah Solomon, who lived with Devaughn.
Devaughn was in custody Wednesday and court records don’t list an attorney for him.
