One-vehicle accident injures 2 in Chartiers
Two Houston residents were in Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh Sunday evening – at least one in critical condition – following a Christmas night car crash in Chartiers Township.
Corey Mitchell, a 21-year-old woman of 228 Parker St., was listed in critical condition. Holden Alexander, 17, of 211 Beachview St., also was at AGH, but a spokeswoman for the hospital could not provide his condition because of his age.
Township police said Alexander and Mitchell were injured in the one-vehicle crash around 9 p.m. Friday on Route 519, near the ATI Allegheny Ludlum plant. Police said they were the car’s only occupants and the investigation is continuing.
According to police, Alexander was driving northbound when the car left the roadway, apparently pulled back onto it, then went out of control and headed south. Police said the car hit a utility pole near the entrance to ATI, then flipped and ended up on its roof.
Mitchell was thrown about 20 feet from the vehicle and Alexander was trapped inside, police said. Members of Chartiers Township Volunteer Fire Department and other emergency personnel worked to free the teenager.
The occupants were flown to AGH by medical helicopter.
