Monongahela woman struck in head with a hatchet
MONESSEN – A Monongahela woman remained hospitalized Wednesday, three days after she was struck in the head with the blunt end of a hatchet in Monessen.
Jillian Brown, 31, of 46 W. Euclid Ave., was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh, after she collapsed in a pizza shop where she went for help about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Monessen police said.
Her alleged attacker, Lamont Jackson, 56, of Second Street, Monessen, was arrested an hour later near South 14th Street and Maple Avenue on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment, police said.
Additional charges were expected to be filed against Jackson when he appears for a preliminary hearing in the case at 10:15 a.m. January 8 before District Judge Joseph Dalfonso in Monessen. He is being held in Westmoreland County jail on $100,000 bond.
Police said Brown was seriously injured in the attack, but her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. Brown’s condition was not released Wednesday because of the nature of her injuries, a UPMC spokeswoman said. Employees at DelRosa’s Pizza, 231 Knox Ave., called authorities after Brown collapsed into a pool of blood while she was going in and out of consciousness at the business, police said.
Police said they were unable to interview Brown because of her condition, and had yet to determine a motive in the assault that investigators believe took place in Jackson’s nearby residence.
