PITTSBURGH (AP) – Police in Pittsburgh have shot a man who they say pointed a gun at two officers in the hallway of an apartment building.

Public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler says police were called shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a man with a gun and found the man waving the weapon. She says officers told the man to drop the firearm, but he put the gun behind his back.

Toler says two officers shot the man several times when he raised the gun and pointed it toward them.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he’s in serious but stable condition.

The two officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Authorities didn’t immediately release the names of the man or the officers.
