Greene County Historical Museum burglarized
WAYNESBURG – The Greene County Historical Museum was burglarized this week and money was taken from an employee’s desk, state police said.
The burglary occurred between 5 p.m. Tuesday when employees closed the museum and when they returned to open it again about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
Police said $100 was stolen from an employee’s desk inside the museum located at 918 Rolling Meadows Road in Franklin Township.
Retha Wise, a museum employee, said a door to the museum was found “standing open” when workers arrived and the screws were taken out of the hinges.
The theft apparently occurred in a maintenance area in the basement of the main building, she said. Wise added that an empty wallet was found in the yard outside.
Museum Director Eben Williams was away on vacation and he could not immediately be reached for comment.
Investigators did not say if anything else was stolen during the heist. They are asking anyone with information on the burglary to contact the state police barracks in Franklin Township at 724-627-6151.
